Mission
To provide access to affordable good quality
essential asthma drugs
Strategy
- Promote use
of The Union’s 4 step standardised,
essential medicines approach to asthma diagnosis &
treatment, and its package of technical measures for quality
asthma management in the general health
services.
- Use
purchasing and marketing strategies to lower prices of
medicines so that they become affordable for the
patient.
- Target populations with large numbers of
patients already seeking care from services that are not yet
able to buy asthma medicines.
- Increase awareness that disability and poverty
caused by asthma can be reduced.
- Be an efficient, independent, transparent,
sustainable drug supply
system.
Operating Principles
- The ADF will be managed by The Union, and advised by a
Steering Committee and Technical Review Panel;
- ADF will be efficient, independent, transparent,
accountable, responsive and sustainable;
- ADF will use competitive processes, pooled procurement and
other purchasing strategies to obtain the lowest possible
prices for asthma medicines;
- ADF will promote standardised cost-effective treatment
regimens;
- ADF will work with clients that meet qualifying
criteria;
- ADF will, with support from technical partners, evaluate
the impact of providing middle and low-income countries with
access to affordable good quality essential drugs.
